The Law Protects You
When you’re charged with a crime, it seems like the world is against you. What the prosecution won’t tell you is that the United States Constitution and the Constitution of Pennsylvania protect you.
If evidence is obtained unlawfully, it should not be used against you. You need a criminal defense lawyer in your corner to protect you against wrongful incarceration. The Bononi & Company Criminal Defense Team knows the law and we fight for your best interests.
What Happens At The Preliminary Hearing?
The Preliminary Hearing is a criminal hearing in front of a Magisterial District Judge. An Assistant District Attorney (representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) and a police officer will present evidence against you to the District Judge. The District Judge is the “gatekeeper” to the Court of Common Pleas. Their job is to determine if the Commonwealth has enough evidence and the right kind of evidence to continue pursuing charges against you.
YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO HAVE AN ATTORNEY DEFENDING YOU AT THE PRELIMINARY HEARING. It is important that your speak with a criminal defense attorney BEFORE your Preliminary Hearing.
Take A Plea Or Go To Trial?
In Pennsylvania, you have a right to a speedy trial. At a trial, the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt each element of the charges against you. Dismissal, acquittal, not guilty, and guilty are all possible outcomes at trial.
Our Criminal Defense team will discuss with you the strengths and weaknesses of the Commonwealth’s case against you and give you honest advice as to what is in your best interest.
Do I Need A Criminal Defense Attorney?
For over 35 years, we have defended clients facing criminal charges. Our firm believes that it is critical to have an advocate fighting for you and your rights.
Being found guilty can have a huge impact on your life and the criminal process can be complicated. There are county specific rules of court, Pennsylvania’s rules of evidence, and even different procedures in each courtroom.
Having a criminal defense lawyer on your side can be the difference between being incarcerated or keeping your liberty.
