If your job requires a Commercial Drivers License, yes a DUI will clearly impact your employment. However, generally, a DUI is not a per se employment issue. I get this question all the time and it is more of an employer specific question. Some employers do not take issue with a DUI, others might have zero tolerance for any criminal offense. It’s important to remember that Pennsylvania is a “work at will” state. That means that unless you have some kind of agreement or tenure with your employer, they really don’t need a reason to fire you.
If you are facing a DUI, call a lawyer that handles DUIs. There may be options available to you that can help you get these charges dismissed and expunged so it doesn’t affect your employment.
