Car accidents are often startling events, and some accidents could result in criminal charges. It is not unusual for some charges not to relate directly to the crash; for instance, if officers believe that a person is in possession of illegal substances. If this happens, multiple drug charges could possibly result from a crash and leave the individual in a challenging predicament.
One man in Pennsylvania is currently facing this type of ordeal after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash. According to reports, the 32-year-old man was involved in the collision with two other vehicles that did not lead to any injuries. As authorities were investigating, a witness allegedly stated that the man had removed a backpack from his vehicle and tossed it away. An officer found the backpack, which purportedly had a metal safe inside.
Upon further investigation, officers allegedly found heroin, crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy, other pills, drug paraphernalia and cash inside the safe. It was suspected that the man was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, and he was transported to an area hospital. He is currently facing criminal charges, including possession with intent to deliver, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use and violations relating to careless driving.
Defending against drug charges and other criminal allegations can have its complications. The man involved in this Pennsylvania case may feel ill at ease moving forward, but the more he learns about his legal rights and options, the more comfortable he may begin to feel. Fortunately, he may have resources at his disposal that could help him better understand his situation.
